Allow me to introduce us:
Derek: He was born in Palmer, Alaska and lived within Alaska his whole life until 18 when he came to North Carolina for College! He packed his bags told his family good-bye and made the long trip to NC. Derek did not know very many people but being the fun-loving guy he is, he made friends in no time at all. One of those friends was Amanda! We will get to that story a little later! =)
Amanda:
Grew up in North Carolina, just minutes from where Derek came for college. Amanda ended up atteding the same college, we both graduated from Southeastern College at Wake Forest.
Derek and Amanda:
We met through mutual friends. When Derek moved to NC he met some friends and they happen to have quite a few mutual friends. Amanda started college a semester early so when she and Derek met she was still in in high school. When Derek found that out, he said, no she is too young for me!! haha! He was only a freshman in college but still the fact that she was in high school was just too much! =) So, Derek came to Amanda's graduation/18th birthday party at her house. It was not long after Amand's graduation that they started dating, actually March 2, 2005 to be exact.
We were both so young at the time and it was only about 6 months to a year when Derek and Amanda knew they wanted to get married. We talked with our parents and both said that it was best to wait until we graduated college! 3 more years, we could not get married until 2008!!! WHAT!! What a long 3 years it was! Derek asked Amanda to marry him on March 2, 2008 and we were married August 2, 2008 ( We didn't waste anytime, thankfully Amanda had a Mom that was a great wedding planner :-] ). Derek is a very sweet and romantic man and Amanda had an engagement better than she could have ever dreamed!
Our wedding was big because Amanda was from Wake Forest and Derek had lived there long enough to make a lot of friends. We had a wonderful party reception after our ceremony! What a wonderful day!! It was day we married our best friend and a day we will remember for the rest of our lives.
Derek is now a youth pastor and working on his Master of Divinity in Christian Apologetics. What a smart man! We LOVE the youth we work with and can't wait to have children of our own one day when Derek is done with school! We are loving life and striving to serve and glorify the Lord in all that we do!!
