9 Months Old - 9/17/2012

9 Months!! Crazy how our boy has grown.  This post is really late because Derek has needed the laptop for school and since he doesn't get home until 11pm most nights I am just now getting around to writing this post!

We had a doctor appointment this month and her only concern was that since 4 months he has progressively gone down in his weight percentage (He is still gaining weight, just not very fast).  He was 92% at 4 months and now at 8 months he was 50%.  I still do not think he is lacking in weight at all so I am just going to keep doing what I am doing.  He is soo active right now I think that is the issue.

Stats:  20.7lbs (50%)   29" (75%)

Eating/Sleeping:   Nursing: Thomas is nursing 4 times a day and sleeping about 10hrs at night before wanting to wake up to eat. He is slowly becoming disinterested in 1 of his 2 day time feedings.  I have found out that if I pump he is more likely to take a bottle than nurse. I think that this is him already beginning to wean himself.  Maybe he will be an easy one to wean. Baby food: he is eating 3 times a day and I have upped him to the stage 3 baby food since he crawling more now.  I am still working this out and how I am suppose to make this stage 3 type food at home. Cheerios have become a great snack for him and he is loving it.  Thomas also eats cheese as a snack too.  He is great at the pincer grasp and pick up the cheerios and cheese on his own. Sleeping: He is sleep 10-12hrs at night and has recently started waking up at 6am.  This is a little early for me.  I was really liking the 7-8am times frame. Im not going to lie.  I hope he goes back to that and this is just a phase.

Clothing: He is definitely in 12 months clothes.

Talking:  Thomas' first word was "ball" as far as correlating the item with the name. The other thing Thomas is saying is "Opa" this is the name for my dad sometimes it is Opa sometimes Thomas says "O" and some times it is "Pa." But either way he LOVES his Opa! It is so precious!!

New Things:  Thomas is continuing to crawl and cruise around.  He is talking more and is starting to correlate people with their names. He loves going around the house and pointing at our pictures.  I will go over who all is in the picture, he just smiles and smiles.  I love it!! My dad (Thomas' Opa) has been taking him on rides on the "Mule" not the animal but the ATV farm vehicle.  This has quickly become Thomas' favorite thing to do! It is his and Opa's thing. I think that is about it! He has also learned this month how to lower himself after he pulls up.  So, in that regard it doesnt scare me as much! =) He is growing up so fast!!

Cinnamon Sugar Muffins

I posted on my facebook a picture of some muffins I cooked for a church staff meeting that was held here at our house.  So, now I am making the recipe a blog post.  I love this muffin recipe and I stumbled upon it on Pinterest (Oh Pinterest! How I love thee). All the ingredients were ones that I had in my pantry.  I LOVE recipes like that.  I knew on Sunday night that they were coming over Monday morning! Ahh! I am the kind of hostess that likes to have a clean house and something warm to feed my guests.  On a side note, hosting people in my home is one of my most favorite things to do!! I love it. I love having people in my home and I love feeding them something yummy! Even if it is a whipped up boxed brownie mix. But this time I had the staff coming over at 9am. Sunday night I searched Pinterest frantically trying to find something that I could cook from items I had in my pantry (I must add, it was time to go grocery shopping. So I didnt have much at all!) Okay, here is the recipe!

The blog that I got the recipe from called them French Breakfast Muffins but I am going to call them, Cinnamon Sugar Muffins. It calls for sugar, butter, more sugar and more butter, a little cinnamon and you know, more butter! Sounds like my kind of muffin (and it was!!!) =)

1/3 c. butter, melted

1/2 c. sugar
1 egg (preferably room temperature)
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. milk

Topping (option: cut topping in half - I had a ton left over)

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 tsp. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350F

Sift the dry ingredients together. Once sifted add the wet ingredients and stir them. DO NOT over mix.  (What happens when you over mix?? Well, I don't know but those were the instructions I got so, I followed them and am passing the same warning on to you!! haha). scoop the batter into a greased muffin pan. After the batter was distributed it made 11 muffins not 12.  I felt like mine were a little skimpy so it is not a 12 muffin recipe for sure.  I may try doubling it next time to make a few more and then maybe they will not be so skimpy. These muffins cook for 20-25mins.

If you decide to make all the topping and not half it the original recipe said you could use it to dip your muffin in as you eat it. Sounds good and it adds a little more butter and sugar! =)

Let me know if you try these!! My husband thought they were the "bomb diggity" so I think I will be making them again! =)

Coupon Steals!

I have recently had a few coupon steals that have made couponing so worth it! I try to feed my family healthy meals so at times it is hard to use coupons when they come through because some of the foods are not very healthy.  Occasionally there are good deals and you just can't pass it up! I have had a few of those recently.  The first one was at Target.

I was out for a leisure Target trip. This is a common occurrence with the this awful hot summer we have had in NC.  It was something I could do to get out of the house with Thomas and not be scorched by this heat.  Thankfully, I think fall weather is on its way!!  Well, back to my deal.  I decided to take a few of my coupons and browse their clearance and sales to see what I could find.  I had a $3 off 2 CoverGirl items  which full price still does not make it a steal but helps if you already need something.  But, to my surprise, they had their mascara on clearance! I looked at the price and it was 50% off.

I did the math really quick and realized I could get 2 mascaras for a little over .50 cents a piece!! Seriously?!? now that is a steal! So, needless to say, I swiped 2 mascaras and paid my $1.24. Thus, a successful leisure trip to Target!! =)

My second coupon deal was for a new kind of ice cream. It is called Front Porch and it is made in North Carolina (Mooresville, NC) How cool is that! This ice cream is only a pint and it is $3.69 a pint.  When the coupon came through, I kept it just in case they went on BOGO. Low and behold it did!! The coupon that I had was for $2.50 off 2.  So I was able to get 2 of them for $1.19.  Seriously! I had 2 coupons so I bought 4 pints of ice cream! My favorite was the Red Velvet.  Derek liked all the flavors so much he was asking if there was a way to find more of those coupons. haha.  Maybe more will come through and Food Lion will put them back on BOGO!

This is why I like couponing.  It save a little bit of money each week and occasionally you get lucky and get some really good deals!!
