Christmas Through the Years...

So, my co-worker decided to put up pictures of them at Christmas through the years they have been together. I decided to do the same!! :) It seemed like such a great idea!! we go!!

Year 1 - 2005 - My first trip to Alaska! We were in Kenai, AK that year. It was a wonderful trip to meet the future in-laws. I stayed with them for almost 2 weeks. :)

Year 2-2006- Derek was in Alaska and I was NC for the whole Christmas season. Therefore we do not really have a "Christmas" picture for this year. That Christmas was not so fun! We never did that again!! :)

Year 3 - 2007 - I went to AK with his family just after Christmas Day!! So good to be there with him!! :)

Year 4 - 2008 - We are married and we have our 1st Christmas and Christmas Tree. :)

Year 5 - 2009 - And 2nd Christmas married!!

What a good 5 years!! I love you my sweet husband soo very much and look forward to many, many, many more Christmas' to come!! :)

Christmas Decorating!! :)

We continued out tradition and started out the day at Bojangles! :D It was so good! Then we went to Lowes and got our tree. We went to two different stores looking for just the right wreath for the door! It was so much fun! Patrick joined us towards the end and helped put up the icicle lights. I was not looking forward to doing that so the boys did it and it looks GREAT!!! :) Here are a few pictures of the process!! :)We are ready for Christmas in Fletcher 267! :)

SEBTS had a Chili Cook Off and I decided to enter. We made Alaskan Moose Chili and we had to think of a creative name. Derek came up with Bullwinkle Surprise. :)

We won Best Appearance...I think that means that it looked the yummiest!!! :) Yay! First time entering and I won a certificate and a coupon for free chips and salsa at Chili's.

Ruth and the Gospel

So I am sitting here working on a Paper for class and came across a verse in Ruth that really jumped out. It is Ruth 1:16 and it is a beautiful Old Testament picture of the Gospel. It reads,
"Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God."
Not only is this beautifully poetic but it is a literal turning to God. And I wish I new Hebrew because I have read and been told that this in Hebrew is very beautiful to read. But the important thing to look at is what Ruth is doing. Ruth is literally turning her self (repenting) and putting her faith in God for all her needs (Salvation). She was leaving her pagan god's and pagan people to follow the one True God. Oh how rich the Old Testament is. The more I study the Bible the more I see how we have forgotten the Old Testament. We must realize that the Bible is one book that needs to be studied as one. Stay tuned I may have to write a sermon on this one...

Cooking for 2!!!

Growing up in a family of six it IS HARD to shop for 2. We always have leftovers that tend to go bad in our refrigerator and it feels like such a waste. Well, many of you know my husbands all time favorite dessert are brownies. I like brownies but we make a huge dish of them and they are staring at me every time I walk by them. Sooo, I found these at the grocery store last time I went!!!

Mini Brownies!!!! :)

Derek liked eating the left over icing!! haha!! :) I might have had a finger dip...or 3.... :)

Contest Pictures

I entered a contest for a photographers blog I follow. We had to send her pictures of something significant in our life. I posted the Bible that Derek gave me when we got engaged. We had to send 3 pictures. Here are the ones I sent!! :)
What makes this Bible special is: 1) Derek gave it to me when he proposed and 2) Ladies that were influential throughout my life wrote me letters in the front!! Amazing!!! :) I love it!!

Red Velvet Cupcakes!!

My absolute favorite cake is Red Velvet Cake. Well, my coworker told me about a baker who has a blog and will often put recipes on there I decided I wanted to try my hand as some recipes from scratch. This being one of them, Red Velvet cupcakes. I think they are pretty good for my first try! :) I hate to admit but I think this is the first thing I have truly made from scratch with out being with my grandmother-in-law or my great aunt. :) Here are some pictures to show my work and also, you can tell I had fun with the icing...definitly not a cake decorator!! ha!! I had fun though!

My next adventure is homemade pasta. I will let you know how that one turns out!! :-/

The Icing...Cream Cheese Icing!! My favorite!!! :)

My Dad...

My Mom and Dad came over to my house the other day and instead of interupting the constant talking that Mom and I were doing to ask for a blanket he decided he would make one with what he could find on the floor beside our chair (newspaper). It was hilarious to turn around and see him making a blanket out of newspaper. haha!! :)

Peanut Butter Cookie Debacle!!!!

I should leave the peanut butter cookie cooking to me sister-in-law (Ellen). I put these in the over for the least amount of time it told me to thinking they would need longer and they were burnt to a crisp. I don't think the pictures do it justice because the bottoms were black....Ok, my dear sister are the peanut butter cookie maker in this family!! :)

OTS 5100- Hybrid

Amanda and I started our Hybrid class last night. It did take 2 hours to download each of our lectures, but it was worth it. Now i am sitting in the library and as I sit and look back over my notes. Studying for our class next week I am reminded how much I love the Old Testament. As many of my post have been I wanted to share a quote from class.

Augustine- “The New Testament is in the Old concealed; the Old Testament is in the new revealed.”

Its amazing what history can teach us. The New Testament would make no since without the Old. We must take the time to study. And in that case I need to get back to it myself!

Folllowing Dreams/Taking a Path

Sunday at church our pastor started the sermon by saying, "Direction not intention, determines destination." When JD said this I thought, "well duh, this will be an easy sermon to listen to." It is funny because it is usually those that convict the most. When I think that it will not have as much of an application to me as someone else, I am usually convicted. haha!! JD went on to talk about how you might have dreams and you might want to be at a certain place in 5 or 10 years but unless you take the steps to get to that place you will not end up there. He mentioned college students...if you want to have a Christian home someday but you are dating a non-christian you are not taking the steps to get to where you want to be in the future. At this point I was thinking ok, *check* I married a godly man and I wanted a Christian home. but then he went on to talk about how it is our everyday decisions that determine our long-term. As I was pondering that I realized that so many times I do look too far into the future and yearn for when I will be a mom and Derek and I are where we will plant our lives. I cant wait to go on the mission field. I cant wait for that time and I let the daily decisions go the to side and I push through each day to get to a greater thing (future). My day to day here at seminary in class, working is just as important as when I am on the mission field with my husband, it is just as important as when I am a mom and Derek and I are in the place where God has us to plant our lives and serve him. I realized how convicting this sermon really is to my life now. I let the days go by and simply do my job because it brings in the money we need to live not because I am making daily decisions that effect my life years from now. So, all that to say, I was truly convicted this morning and realized I need to dedicate every day of my life to the Lord and think of everyday as a mission field even if I do work on SEBTS campus. I am still working for the Lord and his glory. I still need to take heed and make sure every step I take each day is working toward following what God wants me to do. JD said something that came from Martin Luther, There are only two days on my calendar that make a difference. THIS day and THAT day. This day that he is living in and judgement day. Those are the only days that matter. I am not guaranteed the future so I need to leave each day for the Lord, each step I take matters now and in my future. Why am I living for the future. How silly is that!! :) It is amazing what God teaches and it is so amazing to learn from such a great God.

1 Year Anniversary!!!

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary in a beautiful cabin in Boone. Thanks to Linda (my co-worker) we were able to have a place to stay for Free!!! It was so great!! I told Derek that since we did not have to pay to stay in a hotel I did not want to cook! I wanted a break from cleaning and cooking! So, we budgeted enough money for us to be able to go out every meal! It was amazing and i am so blessed to have a husband that would allow me to have a vacation from cooking and cleaning and everyday life! it was GREAT!!!! :) We went hiking and through caverns and walked through downtown Boone. We watched a movie every night and I (Amanda) could not stay up any later than 11:00pm. I was so tired by that point I could not keep my eyes open any longer!! haha!! (I'm getting old). :) We are getting internet on Wednesday and I will post pictures then and I will also post pictures of the new townhouse (for those of you wondering). :) What a GREAT 1 year! I am so glad to be married to Derek George! What an amazing man. I cannot say how wonderful this past year has been!!! :)

Beach Trip!! :)

We took a beach trip with Mike and Madesta! It was such a blast. I have more pictures on my nice camera but these are from my point and shoot!! :)

The picture of the walk was the beginning of what we think was about a 5 mile walk. We had no way to measure the length of our walk but it was almost 2 1/2 hours!

It was tiring but a lot of fun!! :)
